Anticipate the Risk of Hydroplaning in the Rainy Season
When the rainy season comes, the roads are often flooded with water because of the rain. In these conditions, there is a risk of hydroplaning. Car drivers need to anticipate this so they don't get hurt.
In general, hydroplaning, which is also often called aquaplaning, is a condition when water pressure accumulates in front of a vehicle's tires. In these conditions, the tires will lose traction or float above the water surface.
Hydroplaning often occurs when tires cross a road surface that is flooded with water. At that time, the tire tread will lift or not stick to the road surface. As a result, the driver has difficulty turning the steering wheel. When turned, the tires do not react. The car will continue to go straight because the tires lose traction.
This condition is very dangerous. Because the driver lost control of the car. Imagine if the road surface curved. At that time the car had to be turned to stay on the road. However, due to hydroplaning, this may not be possible. Of course the consequences can be fatal.
There are various triggers for hydroplaning. The first could be related to speed when crossing a flooded road surface. The faster a vehicle goes, the greater the risk of hydroplaning occurring.
The depth of the puddle on the road can also have an influence. If the road surface is flooded deeply enough, the risk of hydroplaning also increases.
However, there is one cause of hydroplaning that can be anticipated. This is related to poor tire condition. If the tire tread or tread has decreased, then the chance of experiencing hydroplaning will increase.
Tires that are bald will lose their ability to break down and drain water. This results in the tires being directly on the water and not touching the road surface. This is what ultimately makes the tires lose traction.
HOW TO ANTICIPATE
Because it can trigger the risk of an accident, it's a good idea to take precautions so that hydroplaning doesn't occur. The first thing you can do is make sure the tires are always in the best condition. Don't use tires whose condition has deteriorated.
As an illustration, use tires that are not bald. Tire treads or treads must always be in good condition and thick. Look at the Thread Wear Indicator (TWI) or tire wear indicator. Don't let the TWI get eroded because it indicates that the tires are worn out and their condition is deteriorating.
Apart from that, other steps to anticipate hydroplaning are related to driving. If possible, avoid crossing bodies of water. Even if you can't, try to pass it at a slow pace. Slow down the vehicle when you see a road that is flooded with water.
Never do sudden braking or hard braking when passing through waterlogged roads. This can actually lead to hydroplaning because the tires can actually lose traction. It is better to slow down the vehicle by braking slowly when you see a puddle of water.
Also try to keep walking straight when crossing wet road surfaces. However, when you have to turn, reduce the vehicle's speed so that the car doesn't go too fast. Doing all this will reduce the possibility of experiencing hydroplaning.
However, make sure you also use the best car tires from Dunlop. Quality tires from Dunlop guarantee good traction in all road conditions, so the risk of experiencing hydroplaning is drastically reduced.
