How to Maintain a Car Transmission?
Transmission is a vehicle component that supports the car to be driven. Its role is very vital. Therefore, the transmission needs to always be maintained.
The transmission position can be said to be part of the power transfer system in the vehicle. Apart from the transmission, there is a propeller shaft clutch for FR type vehicles, differential and axle shaft.
With a special working system, the transmission allows the vehicle to move. In this regard, in general there are several main functions of transmission as follows:
â— Sets the speed and torque of the vehicle.
â— Allows the vehicle to move backwards.
â— Allows the vehicle to be in neutral.
All transmission functions are related to vehicle movement. Not surprisingly, the presence of transmission is very important. So it should be ensured that the transmission is maintained so that it is always in prime condition.
How to do it? The following are steps that can be carried out.
How to Maintain an Automatic Car Transmission
Automatic transmission maintenance is complex. There are mechanical and electronic components that need attention. Even so, maintaining the transmission can still be done easily.
The main thing that can be done is to shift the transmission smoothly. Drivers can see the condition of the road they are traveling on. When you feel that there is heavy terrain such as an incline, kick down can be done so that the transmission load is not heavy.
Kick down is a way to lighten the load on the transmission by downshifting to a lower gear. How to do this by pressing the accelerator pedal suddenly and fully when going uphill. As a result, the gear shift to a lower position occurs automatically.
This step will indeed make the engine roar. However, the transmission load will be lighter. This is what will support a more durable transmission.
Furthermore, to maximize car transmission maintenance, extra attention needs to be given to the transmission oil. Routine checks can be done yourself.
See the transmission oil indicator stick. Unplug it then check the condition of the oil. Transmission oil should be red in color with a pleasant odor. However, if it is cloudy, dark and smells like burning, you can be sure that the quality of the transmission oil has decreased. Substitutions must be made.
Also use the transmission oil stick to see the transmission oil volume. The position of the transmission oil mark on the check stick can be an indicator. The oil should be in the middle, meaning neither too little nor too much.
Make sure of this while checking for possible leaks. If there is a leak or the oil level is low, repair it immediately by taking it to a repair shop. This must be handled immediately so that the transmission is maintained.
How to Maintain a Manual Transmission
Manual transmission maintenance is fairly simple. There doesn't need to be a lot of things to pay attention to like an automatic transmission. In general, car owners only need to pay attention to the oil, clutch plate and driving style.
Regarding oil, vehicle owners only need to change the oil according to schedule. This is quite easy because each vehicle includes recommended instructions for changing the transmission oil. Just follow it, then the condition of the oil for the transmission will always be good.
It's different with the clutch plate. Drivers need to be sensitive to detect possible clutch plate damage.
The way you can do this is by looking at the engine speed indicator when the car is moving. If the revs continue to increase but the car's speed takes a long time to increase, then it is possible that the clutch is slipping so it does not follow the engine's commands. If this is the case, repair and replacement of components is necessary.
Complete these two things by driving normally. Shift the transmission gear smoothly. This step will be able to support a more durable transmission.
Car transmission maintenance steps are fairly simple. Do this regularly so that transmission conditions are always optimal.
