Driving is Safer With Pre-Collision Technology
Technological advances make driving safety increasingly guaranteed. Many devices support it. One of them is Pre-Collision Technology (PCT) which minimizes the risk of fatal accidents due to collisions.
Often also referred to as a collision avoidance system, collision mitigation system, forward collision warning system, or pre-crash system, the PCT system is vital for driving safety. PCT is able to minimize the risk of fatal impacts due to an accident. In fact, in the end it can prevent the car from dangerous collisions.
PCT is able to warn the driver about the possibility of a collision. The goal is actually so that the driver can anticipate this so it doesn't happen. However, even if a collision does occur, PCT has taken a number of safety measures so that car passengers are better protected.
There are different forms of security. There is a PCT that can directly tighten the seat belt, adjust the height of the headrest and the angle of the seat back so that passengers are safe. There are also those that equip it with the ability to close the windows and sunroof automatically. The differences in security methods depend on the type of PCT issued by each car manufacturer.
In general, PCT is run with a radar system. This method was chosen because radar waves travel faster than sound.
Taking advantage of this, a number of PCT supporting devices are installed at various points in the car. For example, radar detector sensors are installed at the front, back and side of the car. Then, there are also those who complete it with the installation of sophisticated cameras to strengthen the detection system.
The installed radar detector sensor continuously releases high frequency radar waves. The wave eventually hits a nearby obstacle or object. Automatically, the waves reflect and turn towards the radar detector sensor.
From there, the PCT system starts working. The sensor is able to calculate the distance and time the reflected wave returns to its origin. At the same time, PCT processes incoming data from various sensors.
As fast as lightning, PCT can calculate and determine various crucial things such as car position, speed, distance and relative velocity. From there PCT can estimate whether there will be a chance of a collision or not.
ACTIVE SYSTEM INDICATION
If there is, the system will immediately give a warning to the driver. An alarm or warning sign will sound or light up so the driver can react immediately.
Other systems also work immediately. After giving a warning, the PCT can immediately control a number of car functions. For example, immediately take over the braking system. The system can strengthen the brakes to slow the car quickly. This is very useful in preventing the car from crashing or at least minimizing the impact.
Then, the seat belt tightening also runs automatically. When there is a potential collision, the PCT immediately orders the seat belt to be tightened so that passengers are safer. Everything runs without the need for action from the driver or other passengers.
Of course this makes things very easy for car drivers. He can focus on preventing the car from colliding or at least reducing its speed so that the collision is not fatal.
PCT is now starting to be available in various types of modern cars. However, this system must be maintained and regulated precisely. If the settings are inaccurate, potential malfunctions that could lead to fatal accidents may occur.
