How to Safely Carry a Bicycle in the Car
Recently, the hobby of cycling is on the rise again. Many people want to ride bicycles in other locations. Finally someone took him by car. This is not wrong. However, to be safe, it's better to first understand how to safely carry a bicycle in the car.
Riding a bicycle or cycling really brings its own sensation. Moreover, if you do it while enjoying the beautiful view or together with other colleagues.
It's not surprising that many people like changing cycling routes. They also took their bicycles by car to the track they liked.
This habit is not wrong. However, there is a concern because many people only carry bicycles in passenger vehicles. In fact, according to its designation, the car is only used to transport people, not goods like bicycles.
This can become a problem if security is ignored. Safety in the car and other parties on the road is at stake.
So, in order not to increase the risk of accidents, it is very important to know how to safely carry a bicycle in the car. Want to know how? Here are some steps
â— Put Into Cabin
If carrying a bicycle in a passenger car, it is recommended to put it in the cabin. This is the safest and simplest way.
This method is most suitable for carrying folding bicycles. Just fold the bicycle and put it in the trunk of the car if there is enough. Security is guaranteed.
However, if you do not bring a folding bicycle, special arrangements must be made. For example, by folding several unused chairs. This will provide space to place the bicycle safely.
Even so, still pay attention to the space used for bicycles. Make sure it doesn't damage the cabin and doesn't disturb the position of the driver or other passengers. This will ensure safety when carrying a bicycle.
â— Use a Bike Rack
This is another solution that can be taken when you don't want or can't bring your bicycle in the cabin. Drivers can use a special bicycle rack installed in the car.
Later the bicycle will be placed there. In the bicycle rack there is a special place for bicycles so that bicycle safety can be guaranteed.
Usually a bicycle rack will be placed at the top or back of the car. This depends on the type of rack chosen and the type of vehicle.
There are several bicycle racks to choose from. For those installed at the top, there are fork mounted racks and frame mounted racks. The first rack requires the bicycle tires to be removed first. Meanwhile, the second rack is able to hold the bicycle frame so there is no need to remove the wheels.
Meanwhile, there are two types of bicycle racks installed on the back, namely hitch rack and trunk rack. Hitch racks are often used for large cars such as SUVs. Then bicycles can simply be moored there.
It's different from the trunk rack. The bicycle needs to be tied to the trunk of the car. This type of rack is suitable for almost all types of MPV cars. Please choose the one that suits your vehicle type and needs.
â— Be careful when driving
This must always be implemented when on the road. Drivers must be careful when driving a vehicle. However, when carrying items in passenger cars such as bicycles, the level of caution needs to be increased.
If using a bicycle rack, take into account the additional distance at the top or back where the rack is installed. Remember, there are additional items there, namely the rack and the bicycle. Cars definitely need more maneuvering space.
For example, when passing through a road with a tunnel. Take into account the height of the car and the racks or bicycles carried there. Make sure there is enough so it doesn't get stuck.
Tie and position the bicycle on the rack as best as possible. This avoids the possibility of the bicycle falling off the rack because it could endanger other road users.
Do all this to ensure the bicycle can be carried safely. You can ride wherever you like.
