DUNLOP WINS TIRE TECHNOLOGY OF THE YEAR AWARD
By utilizing Hydrogenated Polymer Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. as Dunlop's parent company in Japan has won the “Tire Technologyo f the Year Award” in the field of “Performance Sustaining Technology.
By utilizing hydrogenated polymer to extend the life of the tire, performance has succeeded in winning the “Tyre Technology of The Year Award” this year at the “Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence”. A truly extraordinary discovery in tire technology. This prestigious award event was given at one of the events as the main opening of the “Tire Technology Expo 2022” which was held from 18 to 20 May 2022 in Hannover, Germany.
This award is the fourth time Sumitomo Rubber Industries has received it at the “Tire Technology of the Year Award” event. The first is “4th Generation Run-Flat Tire Technology” 2010. Second is “Advanced 4D Nano Design New Materials Development Technology” 2017. Third is “Sensing Core Technology” 2019.
Dr. Bernd Lowenhaupt (Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Europe GmbH) accepted the award on behalf of Sumitomo Rubber Group. In his speech, Dr. Lowenhaupt said that this award was the result of research collaboration between our group, our suppliers and other research institutions.

For the development of this innovative technology, Sumitomo Rubber Group takes full advantage of the proprietary “Tyre Leap AI Analysis”,AI Technology” and “Advanced 4D Nano design”. Advanced Design 4D new material development technology. As a result of this research, we realized ‘Performance Sustaining Technology’ thanks to the adoption of hydrogenated polymers which are completely different from conventional polymers,” he added.
‘Performance Sustaining Technology’ is one of the core technologies of our Smart Tire Concept *5. This future tire product concept does not only focus on safety and environmental friendliness. But it also creates tires with high levels of performance, fuel efficiency, traction, wear resistance and long life.
