Effects of Car Tire Pressure that Exceeds Recommendations
If Drivemate plans to travel long distances, one of the things you need to check is the air pressure of the car's tires. You have to make sure that the tires have the right air pressure, not less and not more. This is because inadequate wind pressure can cause undesirable events to occur. Indeed, what are the impacts of incorrect car tire pressure?
Effects of Excessive Car Tire Pressure
There are several consequences of excessive car tire pressure. Of course, all of these impacts cannot be ignored because they can endanger drivers, passengers and other road users. The following are some of the effects of excessive tire pressure:
1. Tires will harden
First, tires with high air pressure will cause the texture of the tire to feel hard. As a result, the driver and passengers feel uncomfortable because the car will shake more easily, especially when traveling on uneven roads. This is because one of the functions of tires is to reduce shocks received by passengers in the car.
2. Reduced driving stability
Excessive car tire pressure also causes driving stability to decrease. This can happen because the tire threads become stiff, reducing the tire's grip. As a result, the car will skid more easily, especially if your car does not use an ABS braking system.
3. The center of the tire is worn out
The next risk is that the center of the tire will wear out faster than the edges. A worn tire center can trigger various undesirable events, ranging from easy slipping when the road is wet to tires that are easily damaged when hit by rocks on the road.
Effects if car tire pressure is low
In addition to not being excessive, car tire pressure should also not be less than recommended. This can cause several impacts, such as:
1. Gasoline runs out faster
It turns out that under-inflated tires have the potential to increase fuel consumption, you know! How is that possible?
This is because under-inflated tires cause the car to have to exert more power to be able to move. If you are forced to take a long journey, of course this reduced fuel efficiency will be detrimental to the Drivemate.
2. The edge of the tire is worn
If the air pressure in your car's tires is low, what will happen is that the outer tire rubber will wear out more quickly. This happens because the load felt by the tires will be greater, but not evenly distributed. Worn tires are of course dangerous because they will cause hydroplaning when the road is wet or other detrimental things.
3. The brakes become less grippy
Insufficient air pressure in car tires will also cause reduced brake performance. Finally, the car takes longer to come to a complete stop. This will be dangerous, especially when the road is slippery or on a downhill road.
What is the ideal tire pressure?
To answer this question, you can look at your car's manual or ask when you buy new tires. Apart from that, some cars also provide stickers on the driver's door pillar frame which contain various kinds of information, one of which is regarding optimal tire pressure. So, there is no definite answer regarding the optimal car tire pressure because each type of car has a different optimal tire pressure.
Given the many losses that can occur if you don't optimize your car's tire pressure, checking it before going on a long trip is the right decision. So, don't forget to visit the workshop to carry out vehicle maintenance before a long trip.
For example, Drivemate can check at the nearest Dunlop Shop. Not only checking car tire pressure, Drivemate can also carry out car tune-ups and various other needs in preparation for long trips. Let's drive safely with Dunlop!
