Avoid These 8 Habits That Make Tires Wear Out Quickly!
Tires are one of the main components of a vehicle which is the key to driving safety and comfort. Therefore, it is important to always ensure that the tires remain in prime condition. However, it is not uncommon for tires to wear out which makes driving difficult. Well, this condition is influenced by various factors, as we will see below.
8 Bad Habits That Can Worn Out Car Tires
Here are 8 factors or bad habits that Drivemates should avoid so that their tires stay in top condition and don't wear out easily.
1. Choosing inappropriate tires
When buying tires, Drivemate must ensure that the pattern, type and size match the rim. You can check the size and type on the outer side of the tire. Usually, there is a unique code that represents the type of tire. If you have difficulty checking directly, you can also find the tire type in the vehicle manual. Why is this check important?
The reason is, if the car tires you are using are not the right size, the balance of the vehicle will be disturbed. This imbalance can result in excessive friction so that the tires wear out faster than they should.
2. Driving in inappropriate road conditions
Every car has its own type of tire and each type of tire has its own function. For example, on road tires are suitable for regular highways and off road tires are specifically for rough terrain (muddy and rocky). Don't get the two confused, OK? For example, if Drivemate uses light tires on a heavy track, the tires will not be able to withstand extreme pressure and friction and vice versa.
3. Inappropriate acceleration and braking
Driving ability also has an effect on the condition of the tires. Bad habits of stepping on the gas or braking suddenly can cause tires to wear out more quickly. Because the tires will experience excessive friction. Therefore, make sure Drivemate drives stably so that the tires last longer.
4. Inappropriate tire pressure
The air pressure in the tires also affects tire wear. If the air pressure is too excessive, brake function and control will be more difficult so the potential for slipping will be greater. This causes the center of the tire contact area to experience friction so that the tire will wear out more quickly. Meanwhile, if the pressure is too low, deflection will occur which will cause the edge of the tire to wear out more quickly.
5. Changing Tire Direction Aggressively
Curbing or changing lanes is a normal movement when driving. However, if this is done aggressively it can actually worsen the condition of the tires. Because the tires have to work extra to maintain the balance of the car. Aggressive driving such as driving at high speeds and rough maneuvers can cause car tire treads to erode more quickly and ultimately accelerate tire wear.
6. The suspension system is not correct
The position of the suspension is very important in driving as well as maintaining tire wear. If the Drivemate car's suspension is not aligned, the tires will wear out quickly when the tires are tilted. Another example, an inappropriate suspension will make the suspension stiff when it hits holes too often. As a result, the driving experience becomes uncomfortable and the tires will also wear out quickly with the many impacts.
7. Overload Vehicle load
Carrying excessive loads can make car tires wear out faster. Because car tires have been specially designed for different load limits. So, when Drivemate often uses it for above average loads, the pressure between the tires and the asphalt will be greater and the friction will be stronger. In the end, the stronger friction will affect tire wear.
8. Not carrying out regular maintenance
Failing to check the condition of your tires will cause them to wear out easily. There are two things you need to pay attention to when maintaining tires, namely tire rotation and air pressure. Make sure Drivemate carries out tire maintenance if the rotation number has reached 8,000 – 10,000 km or when changing the oil. Meanwhile, air pressure checks can be done every 2 weeks.
For the sake of driving safety and comfort, don't do the bad habits above so that the tires don't wear out easily. Instead, do the opposite so that the tires remain in prime condition. Apart from that, make sure your Drivemate car tires come from a quality brand like Dunlop. Want to know which Dunlop car tire product is suitable for your car? Check here, let's go!
