Get to know the Hill Start Assist function which is very helpful on hills
Driving a car on an uphill road is often a hassle. Especially for novice drivers. However, thanks to Hill Start Assist (HSA), this hassle will not be felt.
Inclines do present their own challenges for car drivers. Especially when combined with heavy traffic conditions that force cars to stop frequently. For novice drivers, situations like this can be confusing. If you are not clever in managing the controls, the car could be in danger of crashing.
Manual transmission car drivers are most often distracted on uphill roads. They have to be smart in managing foot pressure on the clutch, gas, brake and handbrake in such a way when stopping on a hill so that the car doesn't slide down.
For this reason, the driving skill which is often known as the “half clutch” must be mastered by manual transmission drivers. This technique will enable the driver to prevent the car from sliding down when forced to stop on an incline.
However, all the hassles in uphill road conditions won't be felt if the car is equipped with HSA. The car is guaranteed not to slide down when stopped on an uphill road.
HSA is a technology that allows the car not to slide backwards for 2-3 seconds on an incline. This feature works with a computer system that is able to make the brakes continue to work, even if the brake pedal is not pressed. In simple terms, HSA functions to activate the brakes automatically for a few seconds when you want to drive up an uphill road so that the car doesn't go backwards.
The HSA feature is able to detect uphill roads. With its sensors, this technology can determine the direction of wheel rotation, even if it is very slow. Thanks to that, when the car is unable to climb uphill or the wheels turn backwards and the driver releases the brake pedal, HSA immediately activates.
Automatically, HSA will activate the brakes so that the car does not reverse. Usually HSA gives a delay of around 5 seconds after the brake pedal is released. During that time, HSA keeps the car's brakes active. This time period is considered to have given the driver enough time to step on the gas pedal or activate the handbrake so that the car remains stable and does not go down the hill.
This system always resets independently. For example, when in the fourth second, the brake is pressed again, HSA will repeat the automatic braking again from zero. This way, when the brake is released again, the brake will work again by itself for five seconds.
USE OF HILLS START ASSIST
The capabilities of HSA mean that many of the latest cars use it. Now HSA is easy to find in various types of cars.
Thanks to this technology, the driver does not need to be afraid that the car will reverse on an uphill slope. HSA will activate braking when the driver moves to step on the gas pedal to increase the car's power.
With this technology, the driver does not have to activate the handbrake on an incline. They can continue to concentrate on holding the steering wheel to control the direction of the car's speed. Understandably, when you press the brake or gas pedal again, the HSA will automatically stop.
In the end, HSA technology is very useful in supporting driving comfort. Drivers can continue to use it in a variety of different road conditions.
In order for the HSA to be maximized, the tires also determine it. Use Dunlop tires that can grip the road surface optimally. Thanks to Dunlop tires, it will be easier for HSA to keep the car from going downhill on uphill roads.
