Get to Know the Three Common Types of Car Tire Treads
Each tire manufacturer produces different types of tire tread. They have their own patterns which are believed to produce the best quality. For example, the Dunlop tire brand has its own characteristics. Even so, there are actually similarities in the general pattern of tire treads which are divided into three main types.
The tread or shape of the tire pattern is not just an accessory for a tire. Much more crucial than that, the tire pattern or tread has the function of maintaining the tire's grip on the road surface and removing water on the road.
Because it is so important, each tire brand develops its own tire tread patterns. They want the tires they produce to function optimally. However, the pattern or tread designed always refers to the three main types of tire tread.
What are they? Here is a more detailed explanation.
Symmetrical Pattern
A symmetrical pattern is characterized by a pattern on the tread or outermost rubber surface of the tire that is symmetrical on both sides. The pattern is on the outside and inside along the tread and around the tire.
Not only that, this design motif is also applied to other tire blocks. As a result, the patterns on the treads of various tire blocks can be drawn into one line in the same direction.
This type of pattern is commonly found in various new car models. Many people use it because the symmetrical tire tread pattern produces a soft sound. The car will not feel noisy so it will be comfortable to drive.
This design is also multifunctional. The wave-like strand pattern is useful for removing water so that the tire can continue to tread steadily on the road surface. In addition, this type of tire can be used in a variety of different directions. The rotation is so easy. Not surprisingly, many vehicles use it for daily activities.
Asymmetrical Pattern
Asymmetrical patterns are the opposite of symmetrical patterns. This type of tire tread is characterized by different designs on both sides of the tire. In fact, when combined, the asymmetric tire pattern looks like two different tires put together. This is because the tire groove pattern design on the inside and outside is not the same.
Usually the patterns on the inside are more numerous and complex. On the other hand, the outer side is designed with fewer patterns. This design has a specific purpose. The “busy” The aim is to maintain stronger grip when the road surface is wet. Meanwhile, the minimal tire pattern on the outside is useful for providing good contact on the road surface.
Asymmetric tire tread types are often very good when used for high-speed cornering. This is because of the strong grip. However, before using it, make sure the installation is correct. The outer side cannot be installed on the inner side, and vice versa. If ignored, tires will actually endanger the speed of the vehicle.
Directional Pattern
The shape of the directional pattern is dominated by an arrow pattern or V shape. In this type of tire pattern there are also arrows indicating the direction of tire rotation on the sides of the tire. Users must really pay attention to the direction and install it correctly according to the instructions.
Even so, tires with directional tread are flexible to install anywhere. Rotation can be done freely, as long as it remains aligned with the recommended direction.
Directional patterns are preferred because they have powerful capabilities. The groove design is able to break up water well, thereby minimizing the risk of aquaplaning when passing through watery roads. However, this tire is also able to grip dry road surfaces well.
The various main tire patterns have their own pluses and minuses. Please choose according to your requirements. However, make sure the tires come from a well-known manufacturer such as Dunlop. With high technology and quality materials, Dunlop guarantees that the tires it produces are capable of supporting driving safety and comfort.
