Public Awareness of Caring for Vehicle Tires is Still Lacking
Karawang, Jurnas.com - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) inspected the condition of vehicle tires at the KM 57 rest area of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, Karawang, West Java, Thursday (30/5/2019).
The inspection carried out at the Dunlop Homecoming Command Post was led directly by the Chairman of the KNKT Soerjanto Tjahjono accompanied by Land Transportation Accident Investigator Budi Susandi and KNKT staff. Present on this occasion was GM Sales Planning and Marketing PT Sumi Rubber Indonesia (Dunlop) Hendra Himawan and other work partners.
"There are still many people who don't understand how to use and care for vehicle tires," said Soerjanto.
Serjanto said that vehicle accidents due to burst tires are still quite high. This shows that public awareness about caring for tires is still lacking.
"That's why on this occasion, KNKT together with PT Sumi Rubber Indonesia as the manufacturer of Dunlop tires are not only checking the condition of the tires, but also providing information on how to care for tires properly," he said.
According to Soerjanto, if a tire has ever been hit or entered a hole, you should immediately have it checked by a repair shop. Because usually there are defects on the inside of the tire that are not visible from the outside.
"But within a certain time the tire could burst and endanger lives," said Soerjanto.
Hendra Himawan agrees with Soerjanto's statement that so far public awareness in maintaining tires is still very low. Even though tires are the only vehicle component that is directly in contact with the road.
"Tires seem trivial, but they are very important in supporting driving safety," said Hendra.
It is because of this condition of society that for the last 14 years, Dunlo has consistently continued to educate the public about how important tires are for safety, security and driving comfort.
"Socialization is not only during Eid transport, but is also carried out in various places such as tire shops, schools and other events," said Hendra.
He hopes that with this outreach, public awareness of the importance of maintaining tires will grow, which in turn can improve driving safety.
"This is part of our commitment as a tire manufacturer to help and support the government in improving road safety," he said.
