Do these 5 things after the car passes through floodwater
For those of you who live near the sea, you must be familiar with the term tidal flood. Tidal floods are floods that originate from the sea. Inundation occurs due to rising sea water so that water overflows onto the surrounding low-lying land. In this way, we can conclude that areas affected by tidal floods are usually below sea level.
Road floods are different from floods in general which are caused by an increase in rainwater discharge. The water from tidal floods is usually clearer than other floods. Apart from that, the water also has different characteristics and characteristics from other types of floods. The reason is, sea water definitely has a higher salt content.
For this reason, Drivemates must be careful when driving their car through areas affected by tidal flooding. If your vehicle passes through tidal floods, immediately do these five things to prevent corrosion!
1. Wash the vehicle
After crossing an area inundated by tidal floods, Drivemate must immediately wash the vehicle. This is to dissolve the salt content in the tidal flood water. Make sure Drivemate also pays attention to the bottom of the car because this is the part that is most exposed to flood water.
If you skip cleaning the bottom of your car, the salt content in the water can speed up the formation of rust. Drivemate definitely doesn't want it, right, if the car breaks down quickly? For this reason, pay close attention to the parts of the car that were affected by the tidal flood.
2. Use special soap
Removing salt can not only be done with clean water. Drivemate must use special soap which has the property of melting salt. Even though Drivemate car components may have been coated with anti-rust material, it would still be better if you cleaned them properly.
3. Dry some
componentsThe third thing you have to do immediately after passing through a tidal flood area is go to a repair shop. You must dry some components that have been exposed to water such as electronic system connectors. Drying this component can only be done in an official workshop because the connector will be opened and dried using air. After that, the repair shop will apply grease to the connector to anticipate rust.
4. Do a general check up
After you have done the three things above, don't forget to continue doing general check ups. This serves to let Drivemate know if something is wrong with your vehicle. For example, in the electronic components earlier; When crossing tidal floods, there will be no serious problems. However, over time, these components can become damaged.
Damage to electronic components will usually only be visible about one or two months later after your car is hit by a tidal flood. Therefore, try to regularly visit your vehicle's official repair shop so that all problems can be resolved quickly.
5. Turn off the vehicle engine
The last and most important thing for you to do when passing through tidal floods is to turn off the vehicle engine. Leaving the engine running will actually make the condition of your car's engine worse.
When you visit a repair shop after going through a tidal flood, you must tell the repair shop to inspect the parts that hold fluid. Make sure to replace fluids that have been exposed to salt content from flood water. Don't let salt remain in your vehicle because salt can damage your car's metal components.
Those are the five things that Drivemates must do after crossing a tidal flood area. Don't forget to focus on cleaning the underside of the car and take your vehicle to a repair shop for further inspection. You should also regularly check your car tires. Especially when it rains, tires that are not well maintained can become slippery when crossing wet roads. Therefore, use Dunlop tires which provide good and premium quality.
