Do these 6 things if your car tire bursts while driving
A burst car tire is an emergency situation for drivers. Not infrequently, drivers immediately panic when a tire bursts, causing even more serious damage. So that this doesn't happen to Drivemate, here is a review of what to do if a tire bursts while driving.
1. Stay calm, don't brake suddenly
When driving a car, Drivemate cannot predict what will happen on the road. Therefore, the main key in driving is to always remain calm, including when a tire bursts in the middle of the road.
It is recommended not to immediately brake suddenly as soon as you realize a car tire has burst. Because the braking process will only shift the entire weight of the car to the front.
As a result, the steering wheel will be pulled towards the broken tire. You as a driver will find it difficult to predict the car's movement. If you get into this situation, it will be difficult for the ABS (anti-lock braking system) feature to work because the tire grip disappears.
2. Reduce
speedWhen Drivemate feels the car tire has burst, immediately reduce speed. Release the gas pedal, but not suddenly. For those of you who drive a car with a manual transmission, there is no need to press the clutch pedal. Because the clutch will only make the car go faster and the tire's traction will be completely lost.
Even though it is recommended to reduce speed, it is best not to shift the transmission to neutral. Just like the clutch pedal, the neutral gear position can make the car go fast and be difficult to control. You can try this method only when the car is not running at high speed.
3. Make sure the steering wheel remains straight
One thing that is often forgotten when a car tire bursts is maintaining the position of the steering wheel. Even though a broken car can cause severe shocks, try to keep the steering wheel in a straight position, especially if the broken tire is at the front of the car.
If the broken tire is at the rear, the car's speed can still be relatively controlled. It's just that a steering wheel that keeps changing position can make the direction of the car's movement more difficult to predict.
4. Stop on the shoulder
of the roadAfter the car slows down, direct the car to the left side of the road. Keep your eyes on the traffic around you and don't endanger other road users. This step is difficult to do when you lose control of the car's movement. Stay calm and move the steering wheel slowly. Always signal to other drivers. There is no need to maneuver because this could cause the car to lose direction.
5. Check the condition of the tires
If you manage to pull over, immediately turn off the car engine. Check the condition of the car tires and check the severity. However, before getting off to check for a burst tire, give an emergency signal to other road users. You can turn on the hazard lights on the car or put up an emergency triangle sign behind the car.
The goal is so that you do not disturb other road users. Setting an emergency signal will also help other drivers know your situation so they can provide appropriate assistance.
6. Seek help
Finally, seek help immediately. There is no need to force yourself to continue traveling with damaged tires because this could endanger your safety. Continue to give an emergency signal so that the disturbance can be handled immediately.
You can call a tow truck or towing service from a car repair shop. If you experience a burst tire on the toll road, you can also contact officers from Jasa Marga. Usually their contact numbers are listed along the toll road. Another way is to ask for help from other road users.
To avoid the risk of a tire bursting when driving a car, Drivemate needs to understand the speed index and load index on car tires. Speed index is the maximum speed limit of the tires installed, while load index is an index of the tire's ability to withstand loads.
From these two sizes, Drivemate can adjust the use of car tires according to your needs. Dunlop provides a variety of high quality car tires for various driving needs, ranging from special tires for SUV cars, tires for eco driving, to premium class tires.
