Enjoy Driving Abroad With an International Driver's License

Driving a car abroad often brings its own sensations. Different road conditions provide a special attraction. Even more so if combined with special views. Very tempting. 

Feel this sensation immediately by obtaining an International Driving License (SIM) first. This is required in order for you to be allowed to drive a vehicle abroad. Without it, you are prohibited from driving, just like in the country if you don't have a driver's license.

Basically, an international driving license is the same as a driving license in Indonesia. However, to have it there must be separate requirements and procedures that must be followed. Don't worry because getting an International Driver's License is fairly easy. In fact, the process only takes 15 minutes.

To obtain an International Driver's License, you can go to the National Police Traffic Corps. In Jakarta, this place is located at Jalan MT Haryono No. 37-38, RT.8/RW.2, Cikoko, Pancoran, South Jakarta. 

There you just have to collect the various necessary files. The requirements needed are original driver's license and photocopy, original KTP and photocopy, original passport and photocopy, 3 4x6 photographs with a blue background, and a stamp of IDR 6,000. Especially for foreign citizens, they must add KITAP.

  The process of making an International Driver's License begins with taking a queue number at the National Police Traffic Corps. After that, the applicant is called and given a form which must be filled in completely. They must return it to the counter provided while making administrative payments. 

The costs required are relatively cheap. To make a new international driver's license, a fee of IDR 250 thousand is charged. Meanwhile, for extension you only need to pay IDR 225 thousand.

After that, the applicant is welcome to wait for a call back. Later, when called, the officer will match the data and check the completeness of the documents. If everything is correct, the International Driver's License will be issued immediately.

The National Police Traffic Corps stated that the process of making an International Driver's License is very practical. It is estimated that it will only take 15 minutes for everything to be completed. The validity period of an International Driver's License is up to 3 years. When the validity period is almost up, owners are advised to immediately extend it so they can always drive abroad at any time.

 

TYPES OF INTERNATIONAL SIMS

In general, an international driving license is the same as a driving license in Indonesia. However, before deciding to get one, there's no harm in looking at the type of International Driver's License. The reason is, the type is not the same as in Indonesia.

For International Driver's Licenses, the types are divided into seven types. The naming is with a letter code like in Indonesia, but the designation is different. Just look at the International Driver's License. A is used for driving a motorbike, B for cars, C for trucks, and D for buses. The type is different from in Indonesia because SIM C is used for motorbikes and SIM A is used for driving cars.

Apart from this type of SIM, there are three other types of International SIM. These are SIM BE for small cars with a trailer, CE for large trucks, and DE for articulated buses.
