Understand the meaning of white and yellow lines on the road for driving safety
Traffic safety cannot be separated from understanding road signs and instructions. Knowing its meaning and use will help drivers to drive vehicles safely. One of them is related to the lines on the road, both white and yellow.
This sign is often found on the road surface. However, many people do not understand the meaning of these signs. So that you don't misunderstand it, here is a brief explanation of the meaning of the white or yellow lines that are often found on the road.
Dotted White Line
Dotted white lines are often found on road surfaces in Indonesia. Usually this line is located in the middle of the road. Its existence is useful for guiding road users to maneuver on the road.
On roads with white dotted lines, drivers are permitted to change lanes or overtake other vehicles. However, they are still required to pay attention to road conditions or other vehicles from the opposite direction before maneuvering.
Unbroken White Line
Continuous white lines are also often found on the road. This sign is often presented at corners, bridges, or uphill roads. Usually the position is in the middle of the road.
The purpose of this continuous white line is to keep the driver always in his lane. Drivers are prohibited from changing lanes or overtaking other vehicles along the road marked with these lines.
Two Unbroken White Lines
You often encounter two continuous white lines side by side on the road. Most often this sign is on busy intercity routes. Of course there is a special purpose when the road is marked with this sign.
These two continuous white lines are a sign prohibiting drivers from overtaking other vehicles by crossing these lines. This means that the driver can only maneuver in his lane.
Double Dotted and Non-Dotted White Lines
There are double white lines in the form of a combination of dotted and unbroken lines. This type of sign is often found in urban areas. The goal is to provide different guidance for drivers on different sides of the line.
For drivers on the dotted line, they are allowed to change lanes to the other side. However, if it is on the side of the unbroken line, the driver must not change lanes.
Non-Breaking Yellow Line
Unbroken yellow lines are rarely found in Indonesia. This sign is more often found abroad, for example in Europe. However, it's good to understand its uses.
When there is a continuous yellow line, it means that the driver may overtake another vehicle without crossing that line. Usually the yellow line is in the middle and combined with the white line at the edge of the road.
Yellow Box Junction
Yellow Box Junction (YBJ) can now be found in many big cities in Indonesia. This sign is in the form of a yellow box. Its presence is most often around intersections or T-junctions.
The aim of YBJ is to ensure that the intersection lane is not locked when traffic conditions are heavy. Other vehicles are prohibited from moving while there are still vehicles in the YBJ area. So, they still have to stop, even though the traffic control light is green indicating they are allowed to walk.
White and yellow lines on the road will help drive safety. To provide greater safety on the roads, always use quality tires such as Dunlop tires. These quality tires from Dunlop can grip the road surface well.
