Causes of Car Tires Wearing Unevenly
After being used for a while, over time car tires will definitely erode. The tread or development should run out evenly. However, there are times when it's not like that, so you have to be careful.
Tires are in direct contact with the road surface. When used for walking, the tire tread rolls continuously. At that time, the tire tread material rubbed against the road non-stop. This gradually causes the surface of the tire to erode completely.
If the tire is in good condition, the eroded area should be flat. However, it's different if something goes wrong. Tires will wear unevenly. This is what you need to watch out for.
Tires are a vital component for safe and comfortable driving on the road. Therefore, tires must always be in prime condition. However, if it is eroded unevenly, the tire's ability to grip the road surface will be more or less reduced. As a result, the car will be more difficult to control. In addition, the risk of tires tearing or exploding will increase.
So, to maintain safety, it is better to replace tires that are eroded unevenly. However, to avoid experiencing this condition, pay attention to the various causes. Pay attention and then anticipate so that it doesn't happen.
The following are common causes of tires wearing unevenly.
Improper Suspension Settings
Suspension that is not perpendicular to the ground can cause tires to wear unevenly. If it is slanted, the tire will wear unevenly. Wear can occur on the inside or outside, depending on the inclination of the suspension settings.
If the bottom side of the tire slopes outward or what is often called negative camber, the inner tire will wear out more quickly. Meanwhile, if the bottom side of the tire is tilted outwards or has positive camber, the outer part of the tire will erode more quickly.
To avoid this, do spooring regularly or when you feel the car's steering wheel tilting. Then, if the tire has been eroded unevenly, it is better to immediately replace it with a new one.
Improper Wheel Angles
Incorrect wheel angle settings can cause tires to wear unevenly. When the wheel angle is not straight, either too inward or protruding outward, tire wear will be affected.
Tires can wear out quickly on the inside or outside depending on the slope. This is because one side of the tire's surface rubs more often with the road surface than the other side.
This condition often occurs when the toe in and toe out settings are incorrect. So, make sure all the values match the standards so that the tire angle is correct. Do spooring and balancing to make sure.
Inappropriate Tire Pressure
Tire pressure must always comply with recommended standards. Don't overdo it or vice versa, don't do it too much. Both are not good for the condition of the tires.
If the tire pressure is too high, the center part will wear out more quickly. Meanwhile, if the tire pressure is low, the outer side of the tire tends to erode. As a result, the tires will wear unevenly.
So, make sure the tire pressure is always right. The recommended pressure value can be seen on each car. Each vehicle must have instructions.
You already understand the causes of tires eroding unevenly. So, anticipate everything early so you don't experience it. If the tires are worn out unevenly, immediately replace them with new ones for safety while traveling.
