Differences between AT and MT Off-road Car Tires
Mud Terrains (MT) tires generally look cool and can add an aggressive appearance to your vehicle. However, these off-road car tires also have several disadvantages. The same is true for All Terrains (AT) car tires, which, although generally good to use, have considerations regarding their ability to deal with steep and challenging terrain. For more detailed information, let's look at the following differences between AT and MT off road tires!
Off road all terrain (AT) tires
If you don't travel off road in challenging terrain, you don't need tires that are too big so AT tires could be an option. This type of tire, which can generally be used for on-road and off-road terrain, is more suitable for everyday use, especially on urban or paved roads.
As the name suggests, AT car tires can also be taken off road with a ratio of 70% on road and 30% off road. AT tires have treads and grooves that are not as strong as MT tires, thus slightly reducing their off road capabilities, but are suitable for more comfortable use on highways.
AT tire example
AT car tires also have a relatively lighter weight and are easy to spin so that when used they can save more fuel. One of the best types of AT tires that you can choose is the Dunlop GRANDTREK AT5, which in its development concept is an all-terrain tire, so it can be used off road or on road with more performance for on road terrain.
A number of advantages of the GRANDTREK AT5 are:
â— Has better direct grip when walking straight and cornering.
â— Has good control stability performance.
â— Even wear performance results in longer service life.
â— Equipped with a stone ejector which prevents stones from slipping into the tire grooves and keeps the tire tread optimally maintained.
â— Adopting a new abrasion compound that increases the number of bond points between carbon and polymer. As a result, traction on wet roads increases so that driving is more stable. Don't forget the longer service life.
A replacement for the Dunlop GRANDTREK AT1, the GRANDTREK AT5 car tire comes with various improved aspects, for example:
â— 45% longer service life.
â— High 20% control stability.
â— 5% increased grip on wet roads.
â— Reduced noise by 10%.
So, GRANDTREK AT5 is very suitable for those of you who have an SUV. Carrying the tagline “Dagal, Durable & Stable”, this tire is not only a reliable choice for off road vehicles, but also provides various size choices, starting from rim 15 to 18 with an aspect ratio of 55 to 75 which can be selected according to your needs.
Off road mud terrain (MT) tires
MT off road tires are used for heavy off roading, especially for muddy terrain. The main difference between MT and AT is that MT tires have wider and deeper grooves, so that mud and dirt can be removed quickly and do not interfere with traction.
So, if you like tough off roading, especially in muddy terrain, nothing can beat MT tires. These tires are ideally used for extreme terrain, not recommended for use on roads or paved roads such as urban areas. This type of tire may also be noisier because of its large grooves.
MT tire example
An example of an MT tire that you can choose is Dunlop GRANDTREK MT2. This type of MT off road tire, which is available in two patterns (wide and narrow), has many advantages. First, the GRANDTREK MT2 radial tire with a Q index speed offers a maximum speed of 160 km/hour.
Secondly, driving comfort in extreme terrain because it has very good mud removal performance. Third, there is reliable grip on mud terrain, thereby improving the off-road driving experience to make it safer and more enjoyable.
That's the information about the differences between AT and MT off-road car tires that you need to know. Whatever type of car tire you need, Dunlop can provide answers and solutions for you. Hopefully this is useful, Drivemate!
