Pay attention to these 3 things when using temporary car tires
Experiencing a car tire leak is the most undesirable event for every driver, especially if it happens in the middle of a journey that is far from residential areas, such as a toll road. The solution that is often used is to use the temporary tire available in the car. What is a temporary tire and is it safe to use in an emergency? Check out the complete explanation below, OK, Drivemate!
What is a temporary tire?
For Drivemates who are unfamiliar with this term, temporary tires are spare car tires with tin, iron or steel rims, and have a size that is usually not the same as the size of the main tire. The capabilities of this type of car tire are certainly not the same as the main tire.
Physically, Drivemate can easily tell if the tire is a temporary tire from the shape of the rim which has the word temporary or T symbol on it and sometimes has a striking color such as yellow or blue.
Drivers who drive cars with temporary tires will experience a different driving experience, both in terms of control and tire stability. To get a safer and more comfortable driving experience, we recommend using Dunlop OEM tires.
The difference between the quality of temporary tires and OEM tires
OEM or Original Equipment Manufacturer tires are genuine and original tires. OEM tires are produced by companies that have been certified by official factories. Furthermore, the tires produced are sold under the name of one of the brands that produce them, such as Dunlop.
This is different from temporary tires which have weaknesses in terms of size, durability and service life. OEM tires have various sizes that can be adjusted to the size of the original Drivemate tires. For example, in terms of load index (load resistance), speed symbol (tyre speed limit), and pattern (pattern on the tire) which can be adjusted for smooth road to off road needs.
3 things you must pay attention to when using temporary tires
If currently Drivemate is forced to continue using temporary tires, here are three things that Drivemate must pay attention to.
1. Check tire pressure
Check the air pressure on the temporary tires that Drivemate has. Generally, it is recommended that cars with a capacity of seven people have a spare tire with a pressure of 44 Psi or 300 kPa (3.O Kgf/Cm2). It is a good idea to increase the tire pressure to avoid decreasing tire pressure until it is time to use it. As a preventive measure, carry out an inspection before Drivemate decides to leave or travel.
2. Use occasionally
As the name suggests, temporary tires are only used for a temporary period. These tires are designed only as replacement tires when the main tire experiences problems until Drivemate finds a repair shop to repair or replace it. Because it is rarely used and paid attention to, Drivemate should check the condition of the spare tire before traveling so that it can be used in emergency situations.
3. Pay attention to the car
's speedThe next thing that Drivemate needs to pay attention to is that the speed of the car when driving with temporary tires cannot be used at speeds of more than 80 km/hour and can only be used for urgent needs.
Car tires are like human feet, if they are damaged, they will hinder Drivemate's daily activities. Always pay attention to the quality of the tires so that Drivemate travel has minimal risks by using OEM tires from Dunlop which have the best tire quality.
