Pay attention to these 7 things when choosing car rims for modification
Does Drivemate want to replace the car's rims and modify it? Choosing rims to replace standard rims requires special attention and should not be done haphazardly. There are several important things that need to be considered regarding vehicle safety and comfort. Read more below!
1. Select the appropriate rim width
First, Drivemate must pay attention to the width of the rims so as not to change the undercarriage of the car. Choose the width of the rim according to the car fender which is located near the tire. If your Drivemate car is classified as a small car, you should choose car rims that are 7 inches wide, medium 8 inches, and saloon around 10 inches. Even though the size is correct, Drivemate still has to check again when installing the rim on the car tire to make sure the rim is appropriate.
2. Adjust the wheel design to the type of car
The wheel design is the main thing that is often desired when modifying a car. However, to keep the car looking good, it is best to adjust the wheel design to the type of car, especially for certain cars.
For example, if the Drivemate car is a city car, you should choose spoked rims so that the car modifications are still pleasing to the eye. Meanwhile, if the Drivemate car is a sedan, monoblock style wheels will be the best choice. Furthermore, Drivemate can consult directly at workshops that usually modify various types of cars.
3. Pay attention to the wheel diameter
Choosing rims that match the tire diameter is very important when modifying a car. Car rims have different diameter sizes so it is mandatory for Drivemate to adjust them to the tire size.
For example, if the Drivemate car is a large car, the correct rim diameter is 18-20 inches. Avoid replacing rims whose diameter is more than 2 steps or 2 inches from standard rims because this can cause the tire to collide with the fender/fender.
4. Pay attention to the rim offset
Next, Drivemate also has to choose rims that match the fender/fender lips. If the factory standard size is 30, then Drivemate has to look for car rims that are larger in size so they can fit deeper. However, if Drivemate wants the rim to stick to the fender lip, then choose a smaller rim.
5. Choose quality tires
To modify rims, car tires are one component that is an important consideration. If Drivemate chooses large rims, then inevitably Drivemate will have to thin the size of the car's tires. This can certainly reduce the comfort of driving on the road.
Therefore, it is important to choose truly quality tires so that driving remains comfortable and safe. For example, by using tires from Dunlop which are thick, comfortable and quiet when driving. Dunlop provides various types of tires for all types of Drivermate cars. Visit Dunlop's website or Instagram to get information regarding products and other interesting information!
6. Pay attention to the wheel bolt specifications
Next, also pay attention to the bolt specifications required for the rim. There are several types of wheel bolts available, for example some use four bolts, some use five. Bolt size usually uses the term PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) which means "distance of bolt holes on the rim".
PCD is usually written 4x100, 5x112, 4x114.3, or 5x114.3. The number 4 or 5 refers to the number of bolt holes, while the nominal 100, 112, or 114.3 is the diameter distance between bolts in millimeters.
7. Test the wheel quality
Next, Drivemate can test the quality of the desired rims. Drivemate can do this by hanging the rim using rubber, then hitting it using a screwdriver to find out the buzzing sound. Good rims will ideally produce a subtle buzzing sound that lasts a long time. Meanwhile, rims that are processed with poor quality materials will tend to make a loud noise and have a short buzz.
These are some important things that Drivemate can pay attention to before deciding to replace and modify car wheels. By using the methods above, the car will remain comfortable and safe to drive even if the wheels are modified. The most important thing is not to rush into choosing car rims that look good. Also pay attention to other aspects as mentioned above.
