Choose tires with a symmetrical tread pattern for daily vehicles
Tires greatly determine the performance, safety and comfort of the vehicle used. If you want tires that can support your daily driving activities well, immediately choose tires with a symmetrical tread pattern.
Tires have various tread patterns. There are three commonly found tire tread patterns, namely symmetrical, asymmetrical and directional. All three have their own characteristics that affect the performance and reliability of the tire.
Of the three, the symmetrical tread pattern is the most commonly used in various types of cars. This is because its design presents special advantages compared to other types of tread.
What does a symmetrical tire tread pattern look like?
Symmetrical tire tread patterns can be easily identified from their appearance. There are patterns that are the same shape on both sides of the tire. Usually the pattern surrounds the tire and is congruent on both the outside and inside of the tire tread pattern.
If drawn into a line, the patterns on the treads of the various tire blocks point in one direction. It's not strange because the characteristic of a symmetrical tire tread pattern is that it has a uniform and parallel groove pattern across the entire surface of the tire tread.
What are the Advantages of Symmetrical Tire Tread Patterns?
Many tire manufacturers choose to design tires with a symmetrical tread pattern. Of course, this is based on various strong reasons.
With a symmetrical tread design, the tire is able to support good vehicle steering and control. In addition, the tires will grip the road surface tightly.
The wave-like strand pattern has also been proven to be effective in removing water, so that the tire can continue to stay firmly on the road. This is because a wider tread surface grip area will provide the ability to break up water more widely. Thanks to this, the disturbance of aquaplaning when the car is driving on a wet road can be reduced.
In addition, symmetrical tires are known to provide low noise levels. The sound produced is not loud so it supports driving comfort. This capability starts from a symmetrical tire groove pattern that is consistent in one direction of rotation. This design allows the sound to be suppressed.
Not only that, tires with a symmetrical tread pattern are known to be more durable than other types of tires. Tires can be rotated easily. No need to worry, all tires can be used for various sides starting from the left and right or front and rear.
Again, the parallel tire pattern allows this to happen. It's no secret that regular tire rotation can extend tire life. In other words, tires can last longer.
What Vehicles Are Suitable for Using It?
Symmetrical tire tread patterns are recommended for daily vehicles. This type of tire is not suitable for cars used for sports activities or vehicles that require high performance.
There are various underlying reasons. First, even though they are quite reliable, symmetrical tire tread patterns are not the best for traversing wet roads. On slippery and watery roads, their reliability is still inferior to asymmetric tires.
Apart from that, symmetrical tires are less good at responding to changing road conditions. When used alternately on good asphalt roads to gravel terrain, this type of tire is less able to provide adequate performance.
However, when installed on vehicles used on smooth roads, the performance of tires with a symmetrical tread pattern will be satisfactory. It's not surprising that many people use it for vehicles in urban areas with good road conditions.
The higher durability of symmetrical tires compared to other types of tires further strengthens their suitability for daily vehicles. Moreover the prices tend to be lower. This further strengthens the choice of many people to use it. Do you want to use tires with a symmetrical tread pattern too?
