Immediately Implement Defensive Driving for Driving Safety
Safety while driving is certainly anyone's dream. Want to make it happen? Try applying various defensive driving techniques.
Now the road conditions are getting busier. Traffic accidents often occur. However, there are interesting facts behind it. According to data from the National Police Traffic Corps in 2003 and 2012, productive age is the largest contributor to traffic accident victims. The range is from 17 to 40 years old.
This fact did not happen without a reason. It is believed that in this age range, drivers are still prone to emotions on the road so that their driving becomes aggressive. That's what ultimately triggered the accident.
In fact, to reduce the risk of accidents on the road, aggressive driving habits need to be reduced. In fact, defensive riding skills need to be mastered.
In general, defensive riding is a driving technique that allows you to protect yourself from potential accidents due to surrounding conditions such as other careless drivers, drunk drivers, or bad weather. This driving technique is an anticipatory step to avoid getting into a traffic accident.
To be able to apply it, drivers must adhere to special values on the road. The most important thing is awareness of wanting to share with other parties on the road. Drivers must realize that the road is public property, so they are willing to respect other people, including other drivers, pedestrians and even jaywalkers.
Apart from that, drivers must be willing to suppress their emotions on the road. Don't easily get angry on the road because of the behavior of other drivers. In fact, it is better to have the will to give in because it supports driving safety. There's no harm in waiting a few seconds but the trip will be safe.
Another principle in defensive riding that is no less important is carefully observing the surrounding conditions. Drivers are advised to always pay attention to the situation on the road. This will ensure that the maneuvers carried out are always safe. However, more than that, driving safety will be maintained.
TIPS FOR IMPLEMENTING DEFENSIVE RIDING
After knowing the benefits of implementing defensive riding, the driver can then practice it on the road. There are several simple steps you can take to implement it.
First, get to know the dynamics of the vehicle. This means that the driver knows the impact of a number of steps taken in the car. For example, understanding what will happen when accelerating, cornering or braking the vehicle.
A more concrete example is that the driver knows very well the impact of suddenly pressing the gas pedal hard. When this is done, the car tires can slip and the vehicle's speed will be uncontrolled. Because he knew it, the driver ultimately didn't do it.
Then the driver can set a safe distance from other vehicles. It is recommended to use the 3 second rule to determine distance when traveling at speeds over 40 km/h. Why 3 seconds? Because that time distance will create a long enough distance to provide braking space when the vehicle in front suddenly stops.
To practice this, use inanimate objects around the road as a benchmark for the distance to the vehicle in front. Calculate the time when the vehicle in front passes the object that is used as a benchmark. To be safe, the time gap must be at least three seconds from when the vehicle in front crosses the benchmark until you pass the same place.
Apart from that, drivers are required to continue to pay attention to the surrounding conditions while driving. Look right and left before maneuvering. Don't hesitate to repeat the observation more than once to be sure.
It is recommended not to assume the movement of other vehicles. For example, when you want to make a U-turn, don't immediately assume that other cars will stop and give way. It's better to observe it for a while before turning.
Drivers must also pay attention to blind spots. This is an area that cannot be reached by the driver's vision either through the windshield or rearview mirror. Consider the conditions of the area before moving.
There are simple tips for doing this. Drivers can create an imaginary circle (safe bubble) around their vehicle. The way to do this is to check the rearview mirror every 5-8 seconds, especially before making a maneuver.
Defensive driving is equipped with driving concentration. Eliminate a number of things that distract you from focusing on the road. The easiest example is don't use your cell phone while driving.
Do all these things, then defensive driving has been implemented. To complete this, make sure the vehicle tires are always in prime condition. To get a guarantee, use quality tires such as Dunlop tires. Quality materials and special technology in manufacturing ensure that Dunlop tires are able to continue to provide the best performance on the road.
