Tips for Caring for Car Tires that are Rarely Used
Recently, the mobility of most people has decreased. Not a few work from home. This reduces the intensity of car use. In fact, the car is almost never used.
In such conditions, the car still needs maintenance. A number of vital components need to be maintained so that they continue to be in prime condition. One of the most important things that requires special attention is the tires.
As a vital car component, tires really determine driving comfort and safety. When the car is rarely used, the tires must be maintained. Even though they are no longer used on the roads, car tires don't last long. It could be that the potential for damage is even greater.
This can happen because the tires continue to support the vehicle's load. In such conditions, the tire's job becomes even harder because the car is parked for a long time. This means that there is one point of support for the load that continuously hits the tire.
The resulting impact could be damage to the tire material. When parked for a long time, tire pressure will decrease over time. This causes the tires to become increasingly flat.
The difficulty is that the tires cannot rotate because the car is parked. Due to pressure from the weight of the car, the fulcrum of the tire can change shape. Any wrong tires will shrink and could tear.
Of course, no one wants their car tires to experience this condition. So, tire maintenance is mandatory when the car has not been used for a long time.
The way to do it is actually easy. Try to keep the tires rotating because it can make the tire surface balanced. If possible, keep the car in use for a while. Either just surrounding the housing complex or used for certain purposes is enough.
However, if you still have to park, make sure your tires don't touch the ground. This aims to prevent the tires from being compressed by the weight of the car. To do this, install a jack that raises the car tire. Make sure all four tires are equally lifted.
If you don't have enough jack to lift all the car tires, there's no need to worry. Car tires can still be maintained by carrying out several other steps.
OTHER STEPS
First, check the tire pressure often. When you rarely drive, tire pressure can decrease. This is possible because tires actually still have pores. From there the air comes out so the pressure inside will decrease.
If the tire pressure drops, the tire will automatically go flat. This condition will cause the tire material to become damaged due to pressure from the weight of the car.
For this reason, it is recommended that you regularly check tire pressure. At least once a week. If you feel the pressure has decreased, immediately fill the tire with air.
In addition to checking the pressure, tires should also be cleaned frequently. So far, when used on the road, material often sticks to the tires and between the tires. They come in various shapes, from pebbles, metal shards, to other sharp objects.
If left unchecked, this material can damage the tire. Especially if it is on the part of the tire that is attached to the ground. The tire surface can be damaged. In fact, if it's serious, the tires will tear.
Therefore, clean the tire surface first before parking it for a long time. Scramble and throw away various objects stuck to the tires and the gaps.
Complete the maintenance steps by polishing the side of the tire. When rarely used, tires can wear out. Fragments and cracks often appear on the tire walls or are often called ozone cracks. To prevent them from appearing, polishing can be an effective way. However, make sure to polish it using tire polish for maximum results.
Try to follow these steps when you want to park your car for a long time. There is no doubt that the tires will continue to be in prime condition.
