Must Know! Here are 5 causes of a car breaking down suddenly
There are various events that can happen to Drivemate when traveling long distances, one of which is that the car suddenly breaks down in the middle of the road. However, Drivemate doesn't need to panic if your car suddenly breaks down because you can find out the cause and how to solve it below.
5 Causes of a Car Breaking Down Suddenly
Actually, there are many reasons why a car can suddenly break down while driving. However, we have summarized some of the main reasons why this could happen to your favorite car. So, what are the main causes of a car breaking down?
1. Battery problems
One of the main causes of a car suddenly breaking down is a problem with the battery. Understandably, the battery is a car component that supplies electricity to the car. If the battery is worn out or damaged, the car will not be able to start, and it could even suddenly break down in the middle of the road.
To check whether the car has indeed broken down due to a damaged battery, Drivemate can pull over on the shoulder of the road, then check whether the battery terminals are installed properly or not. If so and the car still has difficulty or won't even start, then replacing the battery is a wise choice. If that happens, there is no other choice but to call the nearest battery repairman or repair shop.
2. Alternator problems
Apart from the battery, the problem of a car breaking down can also occur due to a damaged alternator. The alternator is the component that supplies electricity to the battery. Even though the battery is functioning properly, the car will still not start if the alternator cannot function because it is broken or rusted. To solve this problem, what you can do is replace the alternator component with a new one.
3. The engine temperature is too hot
If the car breaks down after being used on a long journey, then one of the main causes is the car being too hot or overheating. There are many reasons why a car can become overheat, starting from not enough radiator water, the wrong type, or even a radiator that turns out to be leaking. This is why checking the radiator is highly recommended before going on a long trip.
If after checking it turns out that the radiator is indeed low on water, then Drivemate can immediately fill it. But, before doing so, Drivemate needs to wait a moment because the radiator valve can be very hot and under high pressure, potentially injuring you. If it turns out that the damage occurred due to a radiator leak or other cooling system damage, then you can call the nearest repair shop for component replacement.
4. Problem with starter dynamo
If the car cannot be started from the start, one possibility is that the starter dynamo is damaged. This component functions to rotate the car engine when it is first started. Generally, a car's starter dynamo can be damaged due to age. If this happens, then you need to replace the component with a new one.
5. Problems with the carburetor
The last problem that can cause a car to break down is a clogged carburetor. The carburetor itself functions to inject fuel which is then burned in the engine combustion chamber. If it is clogged, then less fuel will be injected and the car will often break down suddenly.
To check the carburetor independently, Drivemate can remove the carburetor connecting hose and insert it into the bottle. Then, pay attention to whether the fuel is sprayed smoothly or not. If you can't do it yourself, the solution is of course to take your car to the nearest repair shop.
Whatever causes your favorite Drivemate car to break down, the first thing you shouldn't do is panic. Remain calm and try starting the engine again. If the engine starts, take the car to the shoulder of the road and check it immediately. If needed, you can contact the nearest repair shop for help.
To avoid incidents where the car suddenly breaks down in the middle of the road, the solution is to carry out routine servicing, especially before going on a long trip. For this reason, Drivemates can visit the nearest Dunlop Shop to carry out tune in and other checks things to do before traveling. So, don't underestimate your Drivemate travel preparations, OK!
