What is Spooring and Balancing in Car Tire Maintenance?
An important part of a vehicle, tires are the only part of a car that comes into contact with the road. That is why comfort and safety when driving are determined by the car tire settings. For this reason, it is very important to care for your car tires, the way to do this is by spooring and balancing. Both are car tire maintenance procedures that should not be missed.
Usually spooring and balancing must be done regularly to maintain tire stability when the car is moving. Even though they are both related to car tire maintenance, spooring and balancing have different purposes. Check out the following article to find out more about what spooring and balancing are.
What is spooring?
Spooring is car maintenance that aims to adjust the position of the car's wheels to factory settings. A car that has been used for a long time will change the position of the car's wheels, especially the two front wheels. This can affect stability when driving.
To find out whether your Drivemate car needs spooring, you can drive the car at low speed. If at a speed of 40-50 kph the car's steering wheel turns right or left by itself, that means Drivemate must immediately take the car to a repair shop for spooring.
What is balancing?
If spooring aims to adjust the position of the tires to their original position, then balancing aims to balance the overall weight of the car tires. The weight referred to is the weight on the car rim, not the gas pressure on the tires. Unbalanced car tires will usually cause vibrations that can be felt into the cabin when driving at high speed.
To equalize the weight of the wheel, the technician will attach a small piece of iron or lead to the part of the wheel that needs to be balanced. If the weight of each wheel is balanced, the vibrations that arise can be eliminated or minimized.
The importance of regular spooring and balancing
After knowing what spooring and balancing are, maybe Drivemate will start to think that this maintenance really needs to be done. Apart from being comfortable when driving, regularly doing spooring and balancing also makes your driving safer. Through spooring maintenance, the vehicle will not turn right or left by itself. Meanwhile, balancing helps the car's tires and steering wheel to remain stable and not vibrate.
The steering wheel of a car that has never received spooring maintenance will feel vibrating, especially when the car is driving on a straight road because the position of the wheels that are directly connected to the steering wheel is not appropriate. Apart from that, spooring and balancing can also be a step to prevent damage to car undercarriage components.
When does Drivemate need to spoore and balance car tires?
Spooring and balancing maintenance do not need to be done simultaneously. Spooring can be done when Drivemate feels disturbing symptoms, such as the steering wheel does not want to return to its starting position, the wheels turn on their own, the tires look slanted when parking, or Drivemate feels that the tire surface is uneven. It would be better if Drivemate checked the car's undercarriage regularly every three months. Regular checks can help Drivemate find problems that may not be noticed while driving.
As for balancing, this maintenance can be done when Drivemate changes the car's tires or rims. It can also refer to the number of kilometers traveled. However, depending on the characteristics of the car, of course the kilometer limit is different. If the car is used every day, Drivemate can routinely carry out balancing once a year even if there are no signs of problems such as the car shaking.
Apart from routine spooring and balancing, it is also important to use good quality car tires that suit your needs from the start. For example, for those who use high-end or luxury cars, the quality of the tires must also be premium, such as VEURO VE302 from Dunlop. This tire is deliberately designed to provide an excellent level of comfort.
Rolling Simulation III digital technology allows changes in air pressure in the movement of tire parts to be observed more thoroughly and accurately. Dunlop VEURO VE302 is equipped with various features such as low noise levels, as well as optimal stability when driving on wet roads or driving at high speed.
