How to Overcome a Slipped Tire on a Car in the Middle of the Road
I can't believe it's already the end of the year, a sign that we will face the rainy season until the beginning of next year. For car drivers, not only do they anticipate flooding due to the rainy season, Drivemates must also be aware of the risk of tires slipping on the road.
Tire slip or skid is a condition caused by the tires lacking grip on the road surface, resulting in loss of control over the vehicle. No joke, this condition can also threaten safety. As a precaution, Drivemate should know how to deal with a slipping tire on a car in the middle of the road.
Try to stay calm, avoid braking suddenly
When faced with a slipping tire, the first step is to try to stay calm. Indeed, there will be a feeling of panic when the car loses control for a few moments, but try to think clearly and take control of the situation. The reason is, one of the things that is often done when panicking is to brake suddenly. In fact, this is strictly prohibited, Drivemate. Braking suddenly or even swerving will actually make the situation worse. So, stay calm and maintain concentration to determine the next step.
Wait until the tire grip returns to normal
If you have calmed down, the next step is to wait until the tire grip returns to normal. Once you have control of the car, just hold the steering wheel straight forward and don't counter-steer. Also avoid stepping on the brake or gas pedal. By not doing anything, Drivemate can actually prevent the car from losing control more seriously.
Take control of the car slowly
After starting to calm down, slowly control the car again. For those of you who use a manual car, try pressing the clutch until the car is back under control. By pressing the clutch, you will free the car to rotate without pressure. After that, apply braking gradually to reduce speed. Do counter steer several times until the car can be controlled.
As for automatic cars, make sure the car has traction control. The way to find out is to use gear from position D to Neutral. If the handle cannot be moved directly, the car can control tire slip automatically.
Tips to Avoid Car Tire Slipping Problems
Already know how to deal with slipping car tires, now Drivemates also need to know tips to avoid this problem. The following is the explanation:
1. Check the condition of the car before driving
Before driving, make sure your car tires are not thin and have the right air pressure. If the tires are worn out, it's best to replace them immediately. Then, while driving, make sure to maintain speed on the road, especially when it starts to rain.
2. For Manual Cars, Also Check the Clutch
For Drivemates who use manual cars, also try checking the clutch. If the clutch lining is worn out or has problems, it's best to replace it with a new one to avoid unwanted things.
3. Be Extra Careful and No Need to Speed
Even if Drivemate is in a hurry, you should avoid speeding on the road. Especially if it rains, the risk of tires slipping will increase when you speed. To avoid rushing, try to get ready early. You can also check traffic conditions to prevent getting stuck in traffic jams.
4. Use tires that suit your car's needs
